Ozonater vs. Ultraviolet – how does ultraviolet compare?
Ozone generally has a larger footprint than ultra-violet and requires a lot more space. Ozone requires more maintenance than ultra-violet and is generally more expensive than ultra-violet technology.
Salt chlorinator versus Technilamp’s ultra-violet clear water system – how does ultra-violet compare?
Salt chlorinators electrodes need replacing annually. They are very expensive, costing approximately R 2000.00 depending on the size of the pool. They also need constant monitoring and adjustment.
Does the ultraviolet unit come in various sizes?
The sizes available are:
- 10 000 LT
- 20 000 LT
- 32 000 LT
- 60 000 LT
Ultraviolet unit size versus pool size?
If the pool does not fit into the above volumes then the fitting nearest to the volume should be used.
Would the amount of people using the pool weekly affect the efficiency?
Yes. The pump and filter should be kept on for a longer period of time.
Does it kill wall contact algae?
Not if the algae is on the wall, but if it is brushed off the wall and is free floating it will be destroyed.
What about PH balance?
PH balance is not affected by ultra-violet. PH functions in conjunction with regular pool acid. Therefore it is important to get the PH levels correct using pool acid before applying the ultra-violet system.
How many litres of water does it sterilize in an hour?
This would depend on the size of the ultraviolet unit and the pump flow. Each swimming pool has a volume of water and the system is matched to the pool volume.
A simple way of calculating the pool volume is to do the following calculation:
Length X Breadth X 1.5 X 1000.
Normally the system sterilises 60-70% of germs per cycle.
Once water is sterile how long does it stay that way?
While the pump is functioning the water will continue to flow over the ultraviolet lamps and deliver sterilized water.
What is the cost of lamp replacement?
The Philips lamp costs in the region of R 470.00 excl. VAT plus the local cost of a maintenance representative.
Note that Technilamp only endorses the use of the Philips lamp. The guarantee is rendered null and void if any other lamp is used.
Who installs the unit?
Either a Technilamp appointed installer or the trained local distributor.
Why does the Technilamp Clear Water system cost more than a Koi system?
The Technilamp Clear Water system uses the unique quartz glass technology. This technology allows the ultra-violet lamp to be fitted inside the glass tube thereby preventing the lamp from making direct contact with the water and preventing any potential harmful human contact. The thick rimmed quartz tube also allows for increased water pressure to be pushed through the system allowing for more effective water sterilisation. The Koi system allows for low pressure water sterilisation only.
Can the Technilamp Clear Water system be used in conjunction with chlorine?
A The system is designed to provide sterilised clean water on a continuous basis. However, in the unlikely event of extreme weather conditions such as a lightning strike or extreme heat the water may discolour. An appropriate dosage of chlorine can be added to the water to stabilise it. This will have no effect on the system and the water will clear within a short period of +- 24 hours.
