Technilamp is South Africa’s leading supplier of Infrared lamps for process heating
Shortwave infrared heating is an extremely fast and efficient form of heating, particularly when applied to moving objects, such as items to be dried or cured or heated on a fast moving conveyor.
High temperatures are quickly be achieved due to the compact nature of the source, that is, the infra-red lamp. Energy densities as high as 120kW to 180 kW per square metre are easily achieved with temperatures ranging from 25 to 600°C and, under special circumstances, exceeding 1000° Celsius.
The heat is transferred as pure radiation at the speed of light which is highly suitable for processes requiring virtual instant heat.
Infrared finds application in many heating situations such as baking, grilling, drying, curing, softening, and accelerating chemical processes.
Due to its instant reaction to electrical control, products, objects, coatings can be maintained within very small limits of a target temperature.
Infrared lamps for process heating are also used in the catering industry for cooking, heating of various foods such as chicken grilling, roasts, pie warming and toasting.
Short wave infra-red industrial heating lamps reduce production costs in many industries.
Applications:
- Drying – mining, gravels, paper and board production, paint varnish, coatings, inks, wood profile central, adhesives and coatings,
- Heating – Process heating on production lines and conveyors, softening of plastics, zone-heating, liquids in pipes or tanks, continuous on line heating of liquids, temperature control of tanks and containers,
- Roasting – Infra-red heating is used in food preparation for chicken and meat grilling, toasting, cooking (pizzas), carvery warming, ox braais and sheep braais, pie warming and plate warming.
- Infrared Zone Heating - Zone heating of factories, all other spaces and difficult areas such as workshops, restaurants, churches. The heating effect is similar to the sun –the infrared heats people – not the atmosphere. Infrared does not consume oxygen and therefore does not reduce productivity.

Benefit |
- Instant on – Instant off
- Radiant heating energy
- Penetrating form of heat
- Direct controllable and focused heating
- No heating of the air
- Clean Heat
- Controlled
|
- No energy wasted during heating up or production loss cooling off
- Travels at the speed of light – ideal for fast moving production lines, such as bottles, cans, printed paper and cartons, painted and coated objects, high speed conveyors
- Ideal for roasting as used in chicken grilling machines. Heat penetrates into meat without burning the surface. Speeds up the process by as much as 40%
- Infrared performs similarly to light. It can be controlled by reflectors with all of its energy directed to the object being heated
- No energy wasted, not heating the air, only the object
- Does not pollute the air or foodstuffs with by products of combustion such as un burnt hydrocarbons etc
- Infrared reacts instantly, making heat control very precise. Use of thyriston controllers and optical hynometers processes is very precise, providing a constant energy saving. Reacts instantly for reheatable quality and energy wavelengths
- Due to the penetrating nature of infrared, it is used to great effect in enhancing the nutritional value of grains and cereals and other foodstuffs, such as maize, soya mince, peanuts, coffee, vegetables. By de-maturing enzymes and bacteria the shelf life is extended without preservatives or chemicals
